Privacy Policy

My Gift Hint is built for families, so this policy is written to be read by humans. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

Account details: your email address and password when you sign up. Your password is never stored in readable form — it is kept only as a secure hash by the sign-in system.
Family profiles you create: names, an optional birthday, an avatar or small photo, and favourites such as treats, hobbies and sizes.
Gift hints you add: the item title, shop, price, size, an optional shopping link, and an optional photo. Photos are resized to a small size and stored as part of your list.
Invitation details you enter: event date and time, location, an optional RSVP phone number and RSVP date, and your message to guests.
Guest claims: when a guest marks a gift as "I'll get this", we store the name they type, an optional message to you, and the reveal date they choose.
Your email preference: whether you ticked the box for occasional emails, and when.
Basic sign-up information: your country (from your browser's language setting), time zone, device type (mobile or desktop), and how you found us (for example a link from a friend).
Anonymous usage counts: page views and link taps on shared lists. These counts carry a random browser code only — never a name, email address, or anything a person typed.

A parent or guardian always holds the account. Everything on a child's profile is entered and managed by that parent or guardian.
If you turn on kid access, your child signs in with a profile code and a 4-digit PIN that you set. A child signed in this way can only see their own profile, add gift ideas, and set favourites — they cannot see claims, messages or account settings, and nothing appears on a shared list until you approve it.

Only lists you publish and share are visible to guests, and only through the link you send them. A shared list shows the profile name, an age worked out from the birthday if you entered one, favourites, gift hints, and the invitation details you added.
Guests never see your email address, your other lists, or anything you keep as a draft.
When a guest claims a gift, their name and message stay hidden from you until the reveal date they picked — the surprise is protected by the system, not just hidden on the screen.

To run the service: show your lists to the people you share them with, record gift claims so gifts are not duplicated, and deliver the reveal-date promise.
If you ticked the occasional-emails box, we may email you about gift lists, seasonal reminders and useful updates. If you didn't tick it, you won't receive these emails.
Anonymous usage counts help us understand which features are used, so we can improve the app.

We never sell your information.
We never show advertising, and there are no advertising or tracking cookies on My Gift Hint. The only things stored in your browser are the essentials: your sign-in session, your work in progress, and the anonymous counting code described above.

Your data is stored in a hosted cloud database. Every account's data is protected by row-level access rules, so one account can never read or change another account's information.
Guest pages load through safe, limited views of your data that include only what the shared page needs.

You can edit or delete profiles, lists, gift hints and invitations at any time.
You can release a guest's claim on a gift, and guests can undo their own claim.
You can turn occasional emails on or off from your Home page.
You can delete your whole account from your Home page. Deleting your account permanently removes your sign-in record, profiles, lists, gift hints, photos and gift messages.

We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is removed with it.
